200 hour Yoga Teacher Training

To apply for training, please submit our online teacher training application, and submit your $500 deposit. Your deposit will be fully refunded if you're not accepted into the program.

The deadline to apply for and submit a deposit to our Winter 2023 training is December 15, 2022.

The Yoga Alliance Certified Create Power Yoga Teacher Training will give you a deep insight into both your yoga practice and understanding of yourself. You will learn how to teach yoga classes that are based in breath, alignment, and meditative movement.  You will come away from training with a comprehensive understanding of yoga physiology, meditation, teaching and communication skills, and how to lead a powerful, strength-building yoga class seeped in using breath and body awareness to create meditation. We will give you the tools to be a successful teacher while you deepen your own practice and understanding of yoga.

Many trainings emphasize reading and lecture. In this training, you will practice teach from day two. Your learning will be through discussion, lecture, hands on exercises, and teaching others. You will leave with skill not only in yoga teaching theory, but in real yoga teaching practice.

Introducing our new Equity in Yoga Scholarship

What our graduates say...

My favorite part of the CPY YTT program was that the entire CPY community, from the teachers to the studio's regular students, were involved in our training program. Whether it was providing us with constructive feedback or allowing us to practice teach in their classes, everyone welcomed us with open arms and support. I could not think of a more nurturing environment to have developed my teaching skills in.

One could assume I’m just biased, but I’m NOT KIDDING when I say this program not only changed my own practice, it changed my life. I learned so much about anatomy that my own practice skyrocketed in the year after my training, I went from barely knowing how to chatarunga to doing every arm balance in the book. Because yes it’s about strength, but it’s also about awareness and understanding the details that make an enormous difference in accessibility. I used to think there was no way I could share information, teach or help people learn. Now I know I can and I feel confident in my ability to do so in a way that is unique to my spirit. Now, I straight up look into the room and I see skeletons, but not in a creepy way- in a way that helps ME help YOU. This program provided me with concrete knowledge and understanding to help others understand their bodies- not just put them in poses- but actually TEACH in a way that fosters independence among students. From weekend TWO, we start teaching in live classes. That might sound scary, but I’m telling you it’s THE way to learn how to teach with confidence- by teaching, baby. To my friends who have reached out and asked my advice about YTT, you already know how I feel about it. Don’t waste your money on a training that might seem “quicker” or “less expensive”. This is not the kind of thing you shortchange. You want the real deal. And this is it.

I completed my RYT-200 teacher training with Petra Lehman Brauer December 2015. I initially was looking to advance my yoga practice but with Petra's encouragement I found a passion in teaching. Throughout the training, Petra provided such support and guidance that helped me build the confidence to be the teacher I am today. Her training was well structured and she provided endless resources to utilize. I would recommend teacher training at create power yoga to any one of my friends looking to advance their yoga practice.

This experience was not only educational and informative, but an inward journey of the self. The training gave me the ability and confidence to be able to walk into a yoga studio and actually teach yoga, not just repeating phrases and cues. Instead, I have been given the ability to provide meaningful directions that impacts students in a classroom. Although this 200-hour training is just the bringing of my journey, Petra Lehman-Brauer’s training was a wonderful transition form student to teacher and has allowed me to feel ready to take on the teaching world.

The experience was life changing. I decided to enroll in training with hopes of working thru some inner struggles and deepening my personal yoga practice. I originally had no intention to teach having only practiced yoga for 6 months prior to the training. With Petra's guidance and encouragement I fell in love with teaching. Being able to teach live classes at the studio right away was an amazing experience that is hard to find in most programs. Petra's approach to teaching is highly effective and hands on. You will receive personalized attention & support to become the best yoga teacher you can be. Not only did I discover who I truly was, I made amazing connections with the other trainees that will last a life time. I highly recommend Create Power Yoga as a place to begin your journey to take your yoga practice to the next level.

My YTT experience at Create Power Yoga was a life-changing one. Each day of training was packed with useful information which was built on content from the previous weeks. We really tapped into our spirituality and honed in on bringing our individual personalities into our teaching-- and had fun doing it!! I would take this training over and over again. I cannot say enough about how positive, helpful, and knowledgeable Petra is. You will walk out of the last day of teacher training feeling confident in leading your own yoga class.

Who should apply? Are there prerequisites?

We work with very new yogis as well as very experienced yoga teachers. All are welcome. If you have a passion for yoga and a desire to change lives (including yours!), you are ready to apply for yoga teacher training. In this training, we will coach you in how to teach an effective, safe, and meaningful yoga class in a way that is authentically you. As a side effect, you’ll become an amazing yoga teacher through a comprehensive program that gives you the information, practice, and support to succeed. We are committed to your success & will do our part to support you in any way we can.

Unlike other training schools, we keep our training small - no more than 10 people - to ensure that we have time to get to know you and coach directly to your needs.  This allows for greater bonding between training participants and plenty of individual time to teach and practice crucial skills.

While we do not require a certain length of yoga practice prior to training, to ensure that our trainees recieve the the best possible experience we do have a few requirements for our trainees:

  • Be comfortable with and physically able to practice heated vinyasa

  • Had a yoga practice long enough to be familiar with all basic poses (not expertise, but familiarity)
  • Attend at least one month of classes at Create Power Yoga. If you haven't been before, take advantage of our Intro Offer (30 days unlimited for $30)
What style of yoga will I be certified to teach?

The Create Power Yoga Teaching Methodology will prepare you to teach power vinyasa classes, but strives to give you the skills and understanding to comfortable teach movement to students in a variety of settings.

Our methodology is based on Baron Baptiste's Power Yoga class series, and adds emphasis on powerful and dynamic movement, breath, and the connection and communication between students and teacher. Equity in Yoga Scholarship
The Equity in Yoga scholarship program at Create Power Yoga is a brand new (2020) initiative to create better representation of BIPOC in the yoga community. We believe representation matters, and BIPOC are under-represented in the yoga community and especially as yoga teachers. Our Equity in Yoga scholarship program aims to create equity in the accessibility of yoga  training and help BIPOC to overcome barriers to yoga trainings.
We now offer two partial (50%) scholarships for our 200hr teacher training. This is the first step in our goal to increase accessibility and diversity in yoga and we hope to continue to expand our scholarship program in the future.View full scholarship details & apply

About your trainer, Petra Lehman-Brauer

Petra Lehman-Brauer began yoga as part of her college dance program. She discovered quickly that yoga asana was helping to relieve pain from old injuries and dysfunction movement patterns created through years of dance. In addition, it helped calm the anxiety and need-for-control that she had experienced for as long as she could remember. Moving forward, Petra practiced more and more, and completed her teacher training in 2013 with Deborah Williamson of Wild Abundant Life.

Petra and her husband, Billy, founded Create Power Yoga in 2014, after an unexpected life-change and a realization that it was now-or-never. Petra's former career included community-building as a programming director for non-profits, and she saw in a yoga studio the opportunity to build connection and family within a yoga practice. When she created Create Power Yoga, her mission was to create a community that would have a life of its own, in and out of yoga classes. Her focus in her classes, and in running her business, is for students to feel safe, connected, welcomed, and powerful.

Petra is an 200-E-RYT Yoga Alliance instructor and an associate Yoga Life Coach, certified by Wild Abundant Life / Midwest Power Yoga, and trained in the LIVE LOVE TEACH® methodology with original co-founder, Deborah Williamson. Petra was mentored by Terry Munnelly of Newport Power Yoga, and Phillip Urso and Renee Delauries of Rhode Island Power Yoga. She is now beginning her RYT-500 certification with Stacy Dockins of The Yoga Project, author of Embodied Posture.

Petra is dedicated to educating incredible teachers, well-versed in a variety of yoga topics and seeped in relevancy to life. Petra's favorite thing to tell trainees is "ask questions - you get what you ask for." Curriculum is supplemented with relevant information about communication skills, learning styles, the mental and physical effects of experiences on the body, scientific studies, and other accumulated knowledge. Tangents are held in high regard, while never distracting from the training.

Petra's certifications and advanced trainings include:
Certified Children's Yoga Instructor (Karma Kids); Certified Hands-on Assistant (Wild Abundant Life); Barre Instructor; Trauma Sensitive Yoga (Bessel Van De Kolk and the Brookline Trauma Institute); Merge the Practice Fascial Body training; Teaching Spirituality (Live Love Teach); and various anatomy teachings from Leslie Kaminoff and Paul Grilley.
